Menachem Mannish changed his name to Shultz to avoid the Polish draft. His father, R’ Eliezer (5607-Cheshvan 5692), established the Lomza Yeshiva (5643), brought over part of the yeshiva and established a branch in Petach Tikva (5685), and is buried on Har Hazeitim, as is his father, Meir Dov. The present Rosh Yeshiva, R’ Eliezer Ozer, is named after him (R’ Eliezer). Menachem Mannish’s mother, Freida Chaya (maiden name unknown), died of typhus in Lomza in the 1910s, along with his eldest sister. He was buried in Petach Tikva under the name Soltz, but now it is corrected and appears as Shultz. [2] |
