The fourth son of Shifra is a bit of a mystery. I have a photo of him and his very lovely family, but I do not know any of their names or what became of them. This Levinson/Levitansky brother did not come to America, but rather immigrated to Paris, France. I know my family kept in touch with the French cousins, and one of my great uncles sailed to France in 1929 to visit them, but there are no records of what their names were except for the old photograph that is not labeled, and my uncle died in 1985, decades before I started asking questions.. I am unsure whether the Paris, France brother kept the surname Levitansky, or if he changed it to Levinson like his 3 American brothers did. The only thing I have found that might possibly be a good clue, is a Page of Testimony at Yad Vashem for a Solomon Levitansky. He is the son of Noaum. Solomon died in the Holocaust in 1944. The woman who wrote the testimony was a friend of his. I found her daughter in Israel, but the daughter knew nothing and her mother, the friend of Solomon Levitansky, had already passed away. It is very possible that Noaum Levitansky is either the brother of Max, Isaac and Harry Levinson, or Noaum's father is the brother and Noaum is the child in the photograph. I wish I could find out more about the Paris family, but I am lost on how to proceed in order to research records in France. [2] |
