She lived the first part of her life as Sandy Sandler, the daughter of Jack/Julius Sander and Gloria Levinson, born and raised in Brooklyn,NY and graduate of UConn. Sandy Sandler was a golden child. She was a straight A student, popular among her peers, favorite among the cousins and never broke rules. She was the perfect daughter who honored her mother and father and was loyal and devoted to them to a fault until the day they each died. She was 7 years older than my father, and she loved him dearly, always taking care of him and protecting him. She married an absolute gem of a man named Dr. Richard Birnberg, and together they were like my second parents. Aunt Sandra was a wealth of family knowledge, but Alzheimers had already taken hold of her mind when I began our family tree, so I was never able to tap into the deep well of information that was imprisoned by her illness. Everyone who knew Sandra Birnberg, knew how special she made everyone around feel, how loyal she was to her family and friends and how devoted she was to her children and her students. RIP Aunt Sandra.
