He graduated with a bachelor of science degree in pharmacy from the University of South Carolina. He was a member of Temple Beth El and its board of directors. He was a life member and former president of the Optimist Club and member and former president of the Mecklenburg Pharmaceutical Association. He was a World War II Navy veteran.
