Hannah S. Hockfield 84 of the Blumenthal Jewish Home, Clemmons, NC, formerly of Durham, NC, died Thursday, January 14, 1999, in Clemmons. She was a native of Bishopville, SC, dauther of Bessie Jolson Slesinger and Otto Slesinger.
She was preceded in death by her late husband, Joe M. Hockfield. She attended Winthrop College, Rock Hill, SC.
During the Roosevelt Administration she served as an executive assistant in the WPA in Washington, DC.
She was a 1977 Durham Mother of the Year, served on the Durham Human Relations Committee and was the first woman chair of Durham Brotherhood Week. She was a charter member of the Duke Hospital Women's Auziliary, a volunteer at the Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center, a member of Order of Eastern Star, a former member of Willowhaven Country Club of Durham and a life member of Hadassah. She was a former member of Beth El Synagogue, Durham, having served as Sunday School Superintendent and was a member of Temple Israel, Charlotte.
