I'm managing the FTDNA file for my second cousin Edwin Gerstley. His level
of shared DNA with Miriam is 136cM, and while it is described as "2nd
Cousin-3rd Cousin" it almost certainly represents a considerably more
distant relationship (I have a confirmed fourth cousin with a higher level
of shared DNA). All of Edwin's ancestors that I know about came from
Bavaria, most of them from a town named Ichenhausen where they had been
for at least three centuries, the known names in his lineages are Mann,
Gerstle, Obernzenner and Gradmann,
However, there have been several recent Family Finder matches for Edwin
with people with no known connection with Bavaria, but with ancestry in or
near Galicia, formerly Poland/Austria and now western Ukraine and Russia.
I hope to be able to track down that connection, but right now I have no
idea which ancestral lineage it is based on.
