Alan L. Solomon, PhD served as Dean and Professor of Music at The Crane School of Music, State University of New York at Potsdam from 2000-2009 and now holds the title of Dean Emeritus. Prior to coming to SUNY Potsdam, Dr. Solomon served as Professor of Music and Director of Music Therapy at the University of Evansville in Indiana for 23 years, the last 13 years as Chair of the Department of Music. In 1996, he received an American Council on Education Fellowship and spent a year working with the chancellor and senior leadership team at the University of Kentucky. He is the co-author of Historical Research in Music Therapy: A Bibliography (4th ed.) and has published in the Journal of Research in Music Education, the Journal of Music Therapy, and Music Therapy Perspectives, as well as authored chapters in the following texts: Music Therapy Research (1st, 2nd and 3rd editions); Give Them Music: Musiktherapie im Exil am Beispiel von Vally Weigl; Research in Music Therapy: A Tradition of Excellence; in addition to receiving Presidential and Lifetime Achievement Awards and Honorary Life Membership from the American Music Therapy Association. Dr. Solomon holds degrees from the University of Kansas and the University of Rhode Island, and was the keynote speaker at the 60th annual conference of the American Music Therapy Association in Cleveland (November 2010).
