Notizen - Listed on Wilberforce Cemetery Records as having died same day as wife Elizabeth on Aug. 20, 1899 (abt 57 yrs). However not sure of this as the Land Registry shows him to have sold his property on Clement Lake, Monmouth Twp, Ont. on August 24, 1899. He was granted 160 acres from the Crown in Monmouth Twp. Lot 34- Conc. 17 on Nov. 17, 1886 off Burleigh Road just north of Wilberforce near Clement Lake (named after him). On Monmouth Twp. Ont. Resident Roll of 1885 he was 37 yrs. (Only heads of household shown.) Wife shown as Elizabeth Scott Clement, children at that time shown as John, Evalina, Mary, Oswald, Suffronia, Florence. We found a tombstone at McPhail's Cemetery, in Wooler, Ontario which had a John Clement, 1847-1927, wife Elizabeth Hogg, 1853-1922, their daughter Annie 1881-1897. It said NATIVES OF SCOTLAND. (Mai be a brother to Martin???) Also another tombstone there which had Elizabeth Clement Nov. 28, 1882-March 11, 1959 married to John Arthur Down Nov.14, 1853-June 7, 1971. Check with the Down family of Wooler to see if they have any records.
