Only one of children with a middle name. When she completed Grade 8 she received the highest score in Ontario on her entrance exams for high school. The children walked to S.S.4 to school, but none went any further, as the nearest high school was in Lindsay. Altha remembered that she didn't start school until age 8 as the schoolhouse was quite a distance away for a small child to walk. As the children got older they were allowed to go further - neighbors on farms were quite a distance away. They walked to hockey games in Haliburton which lasted most of the night.
