See "Notes" for William Gainforth. Quote from "Fragments of a Dream" - book by L. Dobrzensky - According to family tradition, a Dutch soldier named Gansvoort fought with his king, William of Orange, at the battle of the Boyne, and afterwards stayed in Ireland, where the name was Anglicized. Among Gansvoort's descendants were three brothers, one of whom was stabbed in the back while crossing a bridge. The second emigrated to the United States, and the third, who was William's father, settled in Trenton, Upper Canada. Nothing is known about William's mother, except that she bore seven sons and a daughter called Sarah. Through combined efforts of all family members, a farm was purchased for each of the five sons who stayed in the Trenton area. The other two, William and Thomas, had already moved to Dysart. --Sources Birth: McPhail's Cemetary Tombstone, Wooler, Ont. Death: McPhail's Cem.
