Obituary from paper: Walter J. Hartill, lifetime resident of Chewelah died in Colville July 1 at the age of 79. He was born in Chewelah and farmed during his earlier years and delivered produce to homes in the area. He then worked for the Northwest Magnesite Company for 28 years until his retirement. He was a member of the Addembly of God Church, Chewelah. Survivors include his wife, Mai at their home; seven daughters, Minnie Holford, Walla Walla, WA, Lilly Greer, Chewelah, Theresa Citi, Ellensburg, Ruby Harris, Kittitas, WA, Mary Gunn, Worley, Idaho, Marie Ray, Williston, North Dakota and Mai Hancock of Colville; 3 sons, Walter Hartill, Jr., Lyons, Oregon, and William and Percy Hartill, both of Chewelah; 2 sisters, Clara Norton, Lansing, Michigan and Grace Craver, Deming, WA; 3 brothers, Clarence Hartill of Colville and Clifford and Elmer Hartill, both of Chewelah; 47 grandchilren, 55 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. The Hartill's were married for 60 years, they also had a son Eugene who is deceased. Funeral service was held Saturday, July 3rd at the Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelas with Rev. Norman Sorensen officiating. Burial was in the Chewelah Memorial Park. Casket bearers were: Alfred Holford, Miles Hartill, Brian Hartill, Ron Harris Scott Hartill, Steve Rarrick, Randall Hancock and Wayne Ambacher. Source: Newspaper clipping.
